Quaich Legends Gather at Gleneagles for Ryder Cup

Big Man and Slicer on the first tee at Gleneagles
Two legendary Quaich players from Team Scotland gathered for a reunion at Gleneagles during the 2014 Ryder Cup.  Ian "Big Man" MacCallum and Douglas "Slicer" Brown enjoyed "inside the ropes" access for the biannual matches between professional stars from both sides of the Atlantic.

Some members of the Scottish team were disappointed not to be invited for the special reunion.

"You gaw te be jokin'!" exclaimed Ronald "Wee Ronnie" Denholm, Scotland's historic points leader.  "Ian can bring whae he wants tae the Ryder Cup, and he chooses the player who has delivered a whopping two points!"

"Slicer is legendary, alright," said Ross "Rosco" MacCallum.  "The lad's legend for the number of balls he lost at The Medalist in 2012."

Slicer, who is a renowned St. Andrews plastic surgeon, played in only one Quaich match in Florida in 2012.  He and Big Man remain close.

"A hae nae brou o this," said Graeme "H" Wilson. "I am thinking Big Man got another free dose of Botox in exchange for those Ryder Cup tickets,"

"What's next? A game at the Auld Course and dinner at the R&A clubhouse for Slicer, Null, and Nae Luck?" asked Michael "Wee Mikey" Redford, quickly listing off the names of one-time Scottish Quaichers.

"The Scottish guys are being way too sensitive about this whole thing," said USA player Chris "Cudman" Van Horne.  "For example, earlier this year, a former USA team member was in D.C. on business and didn't bother to call me to meet up for drinks or dinner.  I didn't hurt my feelings at all.  I am sure the a**hole was just busy."

Swayze Shanks Ice Bucket Challenge

Many Quaich players were caught up in this Summer's ALS Ice Bucket challenge.  Among them was former USA Captain Eric "Swayze" Silagy.  Swayze's challenge stands out because of the sheer vanity on display during the challenge.  Before shooting the highly produced clip, Swayze's handlers were given strict instructions not to dump any water on his well coiffed hair.

"Of course we would never dump ice water on his head," said Susanna Kurtz, Swayze's personal stylist. "He had spent 45 minutes in the make-up chair prior to the shoot getting his usual treatment of SachaJuan Hair Wax and Ocean Mist.  Water would ruin the entire look!"

"Eric's look doesn't just happen, you know." said another stylist known only as Terrance. "It takes a lot of work to get that lustrous shine and smooth texture."

"After that pretty boy called me out on the ALS challenge," said four time major champion, Ernie Els. "I did the challenge like any real man would --- shirt off and full bucket of water over the head."
